Mission

The Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) has been working as an independent unit of the Research Centre for Natural Sciences  (RCNS) since 1st of April 2014. The founding research groups are the Neurocognitive Development and the Brain Structure and Dynamics Research Groups. For the realization of the current research and development programs, the most up-to-date methods and equipment are available that were established with the help of the Hungarian Brain Research Program (NAP) and the support provided by the Research Centre for Natural Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to help infrastructural development.

In the RCNS HAS Brain Imaging Centre, we conduct applied and basic research that promotes scientific progress and can be utilized directly and indirectly in the domestic practice. The mission of BIC researchers is to attain a better understanding of human brain function and to reach subgoals related to this area of research in domestic and international cooperation.

The main goals of BIC:

  • Exploring the neural basis of higher-level brain functions in health and disease
  • Developing novel methods to investigate brain structure and function
  • Developing neuroimaging-based biomarkers for drug discovery research related to neuropsychiatric diseases
  • Facilitating interdisciplinary research involving neuroscience methods
  • Educating undergraduates with different disciplines involving neuroimaging, training young research scientists, and providing a new generation of neuroscientists
  • Improving national and international cooperations and develop new ones

Year of establishment: 2014
